The Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad takes every opportunity to assist youth explore their interest in the Fire and Emergency Medical Services field.
Junior members are for those individulas between the ages of 16 -18. The role of Junior Members are to help assist members of the organization both on emergency responses as well as inside the station. This gives the Junior Member an inside look at what being a volunteer firefighter is while learning/training on the job.
All training is provided for at the area’s nationally accredited training centers including Prince George’s County Fire/Rescue Training Academy, MFRI, or various Homeland Security facilities. These training centers offer a variety of classes including:
- Firefighter I / II
- Emergency Vehicle Operator
- Pump Operator
- Rescue Technician (confined space, vehicle, heavy machinery, high angle)
- HAZMAT Operations
- Instructor I / II / II
- Fire Officer I / II / III / IV
Any member 16 to 18 years of age, either in or out of school, who has completed probation and is voted to Active Membership by the Corporation and who maintains active participation in the functions of the Corporation as outlined in these By-Laws. Junior Firefighters shall not be obligated to ride the Rescue Squad. Junior Firefighters may become members of the Rescue Squad if they so desire and if the requirements stated in these By-Laws are met. Junior members may not hold office and will be unable to have a vote in organizationl matters.
